On 5th March 2017 St. Anthony’s Convent, Jaigaon, anticipated the International Women’s Day Celebration, for the women of Ramgaon. 42 women took part in this celebration. The program started at 3.00pm. There were 4 groups according to their language. Unfortunately the Bengali language group couldn’t take part due to puja in their area. The program commenced with a beautiful prayer service, animated by Mrs. Philo Kujur and Mrs. Kiran Tigga, lighting of the lamp, reading the Word of God and praying for all women in the world. This was followed by short program.
The Chief Guest for the event was Mrs. Rita Rai the Sarpanch of the area. She was felicitated with a Khada and a small gift. The women presented songs and dances in their own languages. The Nagesia group of women shared their problems that they were facing. Most of the days they remain without food, water and money. The Chief Guest appreciated their program. It was an eye opener for her, so in her speech she promised to help them out. And advised them to stop drinking and be a good wife. She also read out a passage from the letters of St. Paul about the duty of a wife.
Lastly the animator of the community Sr. Lily D. thanked Mrs. Rita Rai the Chief Guest for accepting the invitation, and appreciated her work, for the society she also requested the women to be regular in their IGP group activities. At the end Sr. Mary P. and Sr. Sadhana M. thanked everybody for making this day so grand and encouraged them to give their best and do well in future. The community offered tea and snacks; also Mrs. Rita offered some snacks and soft drinks. Everyone was very happy and thanked the sisters and returned home at 5.30pm.
