First Communion: 5th February 2017 – Kalyani . 22 young boys and girls were prepared for the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist by Sr. Mary Sarkar with much love, dedication and sacrifice. The bishop of Krishnagar solemnized this occasion at the Holy Eucharist at 7 a.m. concelebrated by 5 Salesian priests of Kalyani and one from Krishnagar. It was a good occasion to connect the Word of God on this First Communion Day where every Christian is called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world through our goodness, kindness, forgiveness and love, thus being a living witness of the love of Christ to all. He exhorted the First Communicants to take Jesus and Mary as their best and true friends and model, as did St. Dominic Savio , to keep faithful to the sacramental life in its reception of them worthily and frequently. We kept these children in our prayer all through their preparation till the final day of receiving this Sacrament that they would always be strengthened by it in their life’s journey.
Solemn Eucharistic Procession: At 2.30 p.m. there was a second Mass concelebrated in the open ground of the parish by a group of 8 priests, Salesians, diocesan and a Redemptorist. The stage and altar that was beautifully decorated spoke of this event. Sr. Margaret Barla and Sr. Sushma contributed much to these great preparations with love and dedication, all for the Lord’s sake. People from the neighboring sub parishes as Krishnagar, Ranaghat, Madanpur, Narayanpur etc also participated. This was followed by the procession from the Church premises all through Mathpara, as the beautifully decorated float carrying the Eucharistic Lord moved along, kirtans were sung and the rosary and prayers recited. It was a great way to bear witness to our faith in the Risen Lord for all who witnessed this spectacle. The Blessed Sacrament finally reached back to the church ground and placed on the altar for a brief moment of adoration. Worthy worship was offered through a devotional prayer dance. The Redemptorist priest, through a touching incident that he related at the homily drew home to the people that: Jesus never fails us. He is in our lives tangibly present to help us, guide us, protect us and lead us from all harm.
