On 4th September as the day dawned there was great enthusiasm and the air was filled with joy. At 6.30 a.m. all the religious communities of Simultala Barasat and some families, gathered in Queen of the Mission Convent to begin the procession in honour of Mother Teresa who was canonized on that day by Pope Francis at Rome.
The statue of Mother Teresa was well decorated and carried by the minor seminarians; each community had placards and banners with the maxims of Mother Theresa. The procession ended in Auxilium Convent Barasat followed by solemn Eucharistic celebration, con celebrated by three priests Fr. Francis Koikara SJ, Fr. Leo Jeyraj and Fr. Thamasin SJ. In his homily Fr. Thamasin S.J. highlighted the qualities of Mother Theresa Especially her humility, love for Jesus, which enabled her to go out of her way to serve the poor and destitute. He also encouraged the assembly to have total trust in God and his providence like Mother Theresa. The animation of the Eucharistic celebration was a joint venture of all the religious communities.
Fr. Thamasin thanked each and every one who contributed for the success of this celebration. After Mass soft drinks were distributed to all and all went home rejoicing with the universal church for the gift of this new great saint and a strong desire to imitate her virtues. In the afternoon the community watched live telecast of the canonization ceremony.
